Menzuma during Mawlid (in 2008), Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. As mentioned in Hadith: The Ethiopians danced in front of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace); dancing and saying [in their language], Muhammad is a righteous servant. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, What are they saying? And they said, Muhammad is a righteous servant (Musnad al-Imam Ahmad. 6 vols. Cairo 1313/1895. Reprint. Abu Yusuf Tawfique Chowdhury was born in Bangladesh. He spent most of his childhood in Saudi Arabia before moving to Australia where he now resides. He graduated from high school earning the academic prize for excellence, attaining the third highest rank in Australia. He then went on to study at the University of Madinah, where he graduated in Arabic and Shariah with distinction. He is currently completing his studies in medicine at Brisbane University. Ethiopia has an extensive and very active Muslim population , who have played an important role in Ethiopian life, particularly in the field of commerce, for over a millennium. Ethiopias earliest and most holy Muslim center, according to tradition, is at Nagash, north of Wukro in Tigray, where there is a fine mosque of considerable antiquity. perhaps the most important Islamic center since medieval times, however, has been the famous walled city of Harar. One of the principal holy cities of Islam, it has long been renowned for its religious learning, as well as for its mosques, many Muslim shrines, and tombs of several holy Muslim leaders of the past. The first muezzin calling the faithful to prayer in the prophets time was an Ethiopian named Bilal, as his compatriots recall with pride to this day.
