Ethiopia - Women Reciting Salawat upon our beloved Prophet peace be upon him. Yaa Nabi Salaam 'alayka Yaa Rasul Salaam 'alayka Yaa Habib Salaam 'alayka Salawaatu'llah 'alayka Salutations on you, O Prophet Salutations on you, O Messenger Salutations on you, O Beloved Blessings of Allah be upon you From Ethiopia to Russia, from Johannesburg to Indonesia. The Mawlid or the Milaad is being celebrated with great intensity and fervor. In these gatherings participants recall the Prophet's birth, his life story (sirah) and his great character are extolled, as Allah said in the Holy Qur'an, "we sent you not but as a Mercy to all the worlds." (21:107). Mosques are decorated with lights, streamers and banners and every night of Rabi` al-Awwal is filled with the chanting of Qur'an and the melodious recitation of Mawlid, praising the Prophet (Peace be upon him), and sending Salaams on him, as Allah's order "O you who believe, pray on him with all respect" follows Allah's declaration that: "Allah and His angels are praying on the Prophet" (Holy Qur'an 33:56). As mentioned in Hadith: The Ethiopians danced in front of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace); dancing and saying [in their language], Muhammad is a righteous servant. The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) said, What are they saying? And they said, Muhammad is a righteous servant (Musnad al-Imam Ahmad. 6 vols. Cairo 1313/1895. Reprint. (Quran - 21:107). Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was a Prophet of love and compassion - a mercy for the whole of mankind. The birthday of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is celebrated on the 12 th day of Rabi-al-Awwal (third mongh of Muslim Calendar) ( this year 9 March ). on this day Muslims send their blessings to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) with recitation of praises and blessings. Muslim organizations arrange for lectures in mosques during the month of Rabi-al-Awal in order to remember the life history of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his good deeds. The birthday of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) is known as Mawlid, Milad, Milad an-Nabi, Mevlid Serif, Mawlid ar-Rasul, Yawm an-Nabi or Milad-un-Nabi.
